Introduction: Thank you for viewing my e-Resume. If you are viewing this then we've had at least an opportunity to talk. You've probably asked me some questions and I'm sure I've asked you some. This e-Resume is designed to give you a fuller picture of myself as you ponder the possibility of making me a part of your business.

Please feel free to look through this information and while you will get a sense of who I am, it still won't be a complete picture. That's why I've provided several ways to get a hold of me at the top of this page.

Thank you for taking time to consider me as a potential asset to your company!

Work History: Story Mode (for a formal resume, see the sidebar)
When I graduated High School in 1989, I was already working for a grocery store in the Flint area. I was able to work up from bag boy (and won the local Top Bag Boy Contest) to cashier to dairy and deli assistant manager.

Soon after, I worked for a small company called Joint Video Ventures Inc. (JVVI). This was back during the hay-day of VHS rentals and we would set up rental locations inside grocery stores and convenient marts. Two days would be spent processing New Release videos and then we would travel 3 days on the road servicing our accounts.

When a buddy of mine offered to rent me a couch and closet in Grand Rapids for only $90 a week, I took the opportunity to move to Michigan's West Coast. When I told the owner of my intention to move, they offered to keep on staff and open a West Michigan office through me. This allowed me to move and still maintain my job.

Fast forward to 1993 and say goodbye to feathered hair and parachute pants. DVDs are replacing VHS and people are buying instead of renting. So I go to work for a Landscape Company in Byron Center. I go from driving a station wagon loaded with movies to 60 hours a week of very labor intensive, sun-blistering landscape installation.

But I could start a job on Monday where we arrive to a brand new house with nothing but dirt surrounding it and leave just a few days later with shrubs, perennials, and grass completing someone's home.

From mid-May through mid-October, I ran the Grading and Hydroseeding crew. We would move dirt around, level it out and then "paint" it green with grass seed. I also installed full landscape projects, retaining walls, ponds and pathways. During the winter, we would plow and work on fixing up equipment. I had opportunity to operate trucks, dump trucks, loaders, bobcats and manage labor crews and converse with customers.

We had a great group of teens and college kids that worked for us and there was a very tangible sense of accomplishment with every job we finished.

Two months after September 11, 2001, I hired in with General RV Center as a Sales Associate. When I interviewed for the job, the owner noticed I had no sales experience and that they had several others to consider for the job. After talking to him for about a half an hour longer, he offered me the job.

The first year there was slow and required a lot of learning, not only the product but "how" to sell. The second year was much better and I was second in sales for our department. In the third year, I lead sales in all but 2 months. We received all kinds of training in interviewing and closing techniques.

In my fourth year, we opened the largest RV sales facility in West Michigan and enjoyed a record year for sales. Unfortunately, management changed and they hired 3 times as many sales people as what we needed. It did, however, allow me to grow into an unofficial management position under the general and sales managers.

In 2006, I received a call from Woodland Travel Center looking for someone that could take over a satellite store they had just opened. Though the store was very small it would give the opportunity to manage officially. But the economic downturn was already being felt in Michigan and we were forced to close down the satellite location and concentrate on the main store in northeast Grand Rapid.

Again, this allowed for more growth as I was able to sell more units, manage the internet and internet sales department and take over company advertising. This would last nearly two years until the economic climate in Michigan would make staffing the company almost impossible.

In all of my employment history, I have been an asset to that company. I am rarely sick, almost never late and learn quickly and get along great with others. I have a natural talent for making work enjoyable and love challenges. I have never been fired and take my work seriously. I am looking for a company that I can be a part of (hopefully permanently) and one that I can really invest not only my time into but also my personality.

Education History: Story Mode (see Sidebar for Formal Resume)

I graduated from EA Johnson High School in Mt. Morris, MI in 1989. I carried College Prep courses throughout earning better than a 3.5 grade average. I majored in College English, Arts and Commercial Design.

I managed squeeze in a year and half of college in just six years! Originally, my focus was going to be Commercial Art but (surprizingly) I did very well in English (though I hated it in High School). I began to change my focus to a teaching degree with hopes of going into middle to high school education.

I also have a few credit hour in Bible College where I thought to pursue a Youth Ministry degree (more on that later).

The rest of my education is the more traditional and honest way of the University of Hard Knocks. I read extensively, get involved in all kinds of projects with friends and associates and can usually "figure" it out with out being told every little detail.

So while I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed (on paper), I am a quick learner and not afraid to work hard to do the job right the first time.

Personal History:
A visit to the World of Dan...

Born in 1971, I grew up in a loving family on the east side of the state. My folks have been married for almost 40 years and live in Arkansas after dad had a heart-attack a few years back and took an early retirement from GM. I have one sister 2 years younger who live in Texas where she and her husband own their own business.

As I mentioned before, I moved to Grand Rapids in 1992. I met my wife taking a youth group roller skating in 1994. We married and 1995 and had our first son in 1996 (this is why I was never able to finish school). A little over 2 years later, we had our second son. We have a great life, my wife is awesome and beautiful and the boys are good-looking, smart, funny and sometimes a pain-in-the-butt. But I wouldn't trade any of it for the world.

We enjoy movies and camping, hanging out with friends and sometimes just spending a night in as a family.

A huge ingredient to what makes me, well, me is God. It is a major factor in how I treat work. I view my work as a gift and not a right. I seek to serve One greater than myself and to be a good testimony to those around me which means I work hard even when the boss isn't around. If you want to know more than that, you can just ask.
